Welcome to SIMEG

ICSIJS RR 2025 Fukuoka, JP
SIMEG's annual scientific and general meeting took place at Fukuoka, Japan. This was the first time that SIMEG met on Asian teretory.
Prof. Murakami was honored with the "Michael Dierks Recognition of Liefetine Achievement" Award by his kolleagues from Sendai SIJ Center and former SIMEG president Dr. Daisuke Kurosawa and SIMEG president Dr. Woodie Cross. Not only the enormous work for SIJ patients but also building up Japan's first SIJ Center are the tremendous efforts.
A big thank you goes to Dr. Daisuke Kurosawa from the Sendai SIJ Center and Sendai Hospital for organizing the congress together with ISHA in Fukuoka. As was the case last year in Graz, Dr. Kurosawa put an incredible amount of effort into getting the organization off the ground. SIMEG is very grateful to him for this organisational work!
SIMEG meets ISHA
On October 2nd, SIMEG held its first guest session at the ISHA annual meeting. Finally, two societies that care for patients whose pain generators are treated in the main areas of focus of both societies have come together. An important exchange on anatomy, function, biology, diagnostics, and therapy has begun.
The presentation of SIMEG's work in the few guest lectures was convincing, and a continuation of these cross-society lectures is planned.
Reference can be made here to the next ISHA congress from October 8-10, 2026, in Bruges, Belgium.
Here, too, a joint exchange on the repeatedly overlapping pain patterns and their explicit clarification and therapy is desirable and long overdue.
Thank you, ISHA, for giving us the opportunity to present our view on pain patterns in the pelvic area!
See you again in Bruges, Belgium, next year!
Dr. Daisuke Kurosawa, Dr. Woodie Cross and Dr. Pierre D'hemecourt gave lectures at the conjoyned session:
"benehmt euch normal: hört auf zu flennen"
“Behave normally: stop crying.”
On August 7, 2025, after a long and serious illness, Michael Dierks, founding father of SIMEG, died peacefully at home in Wermelskirchen, the former headquarters of SIMEG, surrounded by his family. Both then and now, the family has been warmly supported.
A minute's silence was held to commemorate not only his outstanding work on behalf of ISG pain patients and the doctors and therapists who treat them. We also miss the great visionary, doer, and sincere, honest, and generous friend who devoted his energy to the SIMEG project until the very end.
He has and will always have a place in our society and in our hearts, and he will continue to be the driving force behind our ongoing work on behalf of ISG pain patients. May he rest in peace and watch over our achievements, which are also his achievements!
Changes in the SIMEG organisation:
Due to the death of Michael Dierks and declining support for SIMEG in Germany, the board has decided in recent weeks to relocate the association's headquarters to Switzerland in order to simplify procedures. Since it is not possible to “move” an association across boarders, this means that the existing association “SIMEG e. V.” based in Wermelskirchen will be wound up in accordance with the statutes and, at the same time, a new association with exactly the same objectives will be established in Kreuzlingen, Switzerland. The bank account and the association's currency will also change to Swiss francs. This procedure was developed by the board in recent weeks and will be implemented at the end of 2025. At the general meeting in Fukuoka, the procedure was unanimously approved by both the board and the members present.
All members will be informed again in writing about the decision and the next steps, and will have the opportunity to raise a justified objection to the procedure.
Comeing up November 2026:
Just some weeks ago we finished our successfull meeting at Fukuoka, Japan, and are happy to announce news for our next scientific and general meeting. This will be held at the Congress Center Alfândega, Porto, Portugal in conjunction with the "12th Interdisciplinary World Congress of lower back and pelvic girdle pain".
So please save the date and joyn in in our next congress. Learn about basics to diagnose and treat SIJ dysfunction and pain in an multidisciplinary way. Our experienced faculty from all over the world will lead you through the exciting history and anatomy.
Additionally it is possible to join in our partner at that meeting, the "World Congress of Lower Back and Pelvic Girdle Pain". Starting 2nd to 5th of November 2026 you have the chance to hear nearly everything about pain in the lower back and the pelvic girdle.
Tue 4th and We 5th there will be conjoyned sessions on the main floor to talk about the surgical ways to treat painfull sacroiliacal joints. What an incredible chance and combination for both societies!
